Scripture Verses on In-N-Out Burger Packaging

I love In-N-Out Burger. On two occasions, I made trips to California just so I could dine at the best burger joint not yet established in Canada. For sure, In-N-Out Burger is kind of a greasy culinary Disneyland for me.

What I didn't notice, when I went to In-N-Out Burger, is the discreet Bible passages printed on the packaging. It's always in a spot you wouldn't look for, and the only allusion is the book, chapter, and verse. You would need a Bible handy to make use of the references.

Apparently, this is a practice that started in the 1980s when Rich Snyder was president of the company. A devout Christian, one suppose this was a means to preach the Word of God to unbelievers. After Rich passed on, the company continued this practice out of respect for him.

In case you were wondering which particular Bible verses were printed, and on which packaging, I have here a list.

• Burger and cheeseburger wrappers
  Revelation 3:20—"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me."

Frankly, I don't care what religious persuasion you are. I think it's cool to find secret messages. It's kind of like using a metal detector — but doing it with pop culture instead. It's the same feeling I get when I see the naked woman hidden in the ice on beer advertisements.

As you can see, it's not only recently that Japanese folk have been taking Western inventions and putting their own spin on it. While you may look at Sony, and Toyota, and Yamaha and think to yourself "neato!" just remember that there is a continuous historical precedent. Japan will continue to innovate for that is the nature of their culture. And we all are better for it.

This is much more sanitary and allows you to eat with peace of mind.

It also works. Quite a few people testify that since they started eating human beings they have become more dynamic and assertive. Perhaps this is the spice you need to add to your life.

Kool-Aid Pickles

Yuck. But apparently baby dills seeped in Kool-Aid is popular in the Mississippi Delta region. I call this an abomination. Unfortunately, it's too late to stop it. The Kool-Aid pickle has claimed the lives of many.

Even Kraft (who owns the trademark on Kool-Aid) is shocked.

Upon learning of the pickles, Bridget MacConnell, a senior manager of corporate affairs at Kraft, recovered, and then pronounced, “We endorse our consumers’ finding innovative ways to use our products.”

Ice Cream Cone + Pizza = Conopizza

The new convenient pizza snack is the Conopizza, a dastardly culinary contraption that seems to combine the best of both worlds. Forget Pizza Pops. That's too messy. The Conopizza, on the other hand, let's you enjoy your pizza with no fear of spillage.

Frankly, I think the idea is ingenious. The reason why cones work for ice cream is because they work. Ice cream is a lot more of a spillable item than pizza &mdash it melts, afterall. Pizza, on the other hand, has much nastier stain potential so it only makes sense to use the most effective means to prevent it.

The Conopizza also comes in three flavours: pepperoni, supreme, and margarita. While I have not actually sampled any Conopizza, I have all the confidence in the world that they are yummy. The inventor, afterall, is an acclaimed chef who has been featured in numerous magazines and has worked with Kraft, Nestle, and Haagen-Dasz. Just in case you are worried that the inventor is using the cones as ice cream cones, take heart. The cone he uses is savory, and is made from special dough that cooks crispy and a bit flaky. In other words, it's a lot like pizza dough but shaped like an ice cream cone.

I can't wait to buy this, to be honest with you.

Drums Made of Cheese

Hey, I wonder if these drums are any gouda? I'm sure the creators of these drums would say they are edam good. All right! All right! I'll stop these cheesy puns. I'm sure they are starting to grate on you.

Just in case you're wondering, indeed this kit is perfectly workable. It was created by Dutch artist Walter Willems for the Mocca exhibit Demons Stole My Soul: Rock 'n' Roll Drums in Contemporary Art in 1995. Mind you, I don't know how durable the kit is, but if you are like me and have always wanted to beat some cheddar to death, you won't care.

An Orchestra Using Nothing But Instruments Made of Vegetables!

Every so often those damn hippies come up with a great idea. And no, pacifism and hirsuteness would not be one of them. However, there's nothing more intriguing, in my books, than turning fresh produce into actual working instruments and then playing them as an orchestra. The whole idea fires off electricity in my brain.

The Vegetable Orchestra has been at this since 1998 and consists of 11 musicians, a sound engineer, and a visual artist. They play all sorts of music: jazz, dub, house, and noise. That's a pretty eclectic mixture and showcases exactly what one can do with vegetables.

A neat touch to all this is that they always finish their concerts by serving vegetable soup to their audience. How very Andy Kaufmann! (And just in case you're wondering, they're not vegetarians).

All of this makes me wonder what I could have accomplished if my mother allowed me to play with my food when I was a kid.

The Incredible Edible Anus -- Made with Belgian Chocolate

One of the more clever allusions to scatological activity, the Incredible Edible Anus is a dessert that an eBay retailer hopes will become a hit. Well, his product definitely has one advantage over Hershey's Kisses: an anus is prone to spew out a product that actually resembles chocolate. Indeed, it is no slur to say that the makers of the Incredible Edible Anus actually are engaging in fudge-packing. It is not a stretch to imply that they hope, through their effort of fudge-packing, that their anuses will make contact with your mouth.

If you look at the two people enjoying their chocolate anuses in the picture above, one can state that there's meant to be a certain eroticism at play here. However, if you are vanilla like me (no pun intended), I can't imagine the Incredible Edible Anus being a hit come Valentine's Day.

"Honey, I've decided to present you this collection of chocolate anuses as a symbol of our eternal love" — there seems to be something missing from this statement. Perhaps it's tenderness. Perhaps the juxtaposition just seems wrong. Remember, though, that you are talking to a fellow that is quite vanilla in his proclivities (unless you count trees).

Whatever your motive, the Incredible Edible Anus seems to me like an intriguing novelty gift to give to that special someone — whether friend of foe.

Guillaume de Nittis: The Man Who Ate Himself

In 1876, a man suffering from depression started eating his own flesh. At first, he started with his forearm — until he was detained and put in a straitjacket. But without access to his arms, he started eating his left foot. He wouldn't eat anything else and was absolutely uncooperative when he was put in protective custody.

When asked what his purpose was for eating himself, Guillarme said that God was "such a poor sculptor that he was trying to help rectify the shameful state of affairs." Upon being told that he would die if he kept this behaviour up, his reply was that he would continue eating himself until only his teeth were left. Finally, on July 4, Mr de Nittis died of shock at the age of 32.

His final act was self-castration — by his own teeth.

Imagine a World Where Everything is Made Out of Carrots

Dr. Eric Whale, left, and Dr David Hepworth have engineered carrots as a replacement for carbon fibre. It is predicted this advance is to change a whole lot of things — from fishing rods to battleships. In fact, the first device to be impacted by this new application — a fly-fishing rod — is set to go on sale later this month.

What this pretty much means is that many of our future daily tools are going to be made out of 100% biological matter. In turn, this also means that they will be biodegradable.

While this may be cause for celebration for environmentalists the word over, I foresee some problems. For instance, what if my furniture rots? Or what if while gardening, I go inside for lunch, come back out only to discover that a rabbit have eaten my shovel?

Sushi-Scented Cologne Spray

Demeter Fragrance Library, a company that specializes in "everyday" scents, has released a sushi-scented cologne spray. And what, pray tell, are the components of a sushi sent? Well, mostly it smells of fish. Along with that, there's a mix of sticky white rice, seaweed, with just a little bit of lemon and ginger. No word on if they are planning a wasabi edition.

You probably like the scent of sushi, but perhaps you are worried that others may not share your sensual preferences. Be not worried. Demeter tends to create scents that only last a short time. Thus, if you are at your local Japanese restaurant, and you want to smell more like your atmosphere, go right ahead. Once you come back from your lunch break and return to your office, you may not be as aromatic. See, it's a win-win proposition.

The price of this sushi fragrance for a 1oz. bottle is $14.99. Hence, it is not as expensive as other eau de toilettes. Certainly, sushi may not be your thing but I'm sure there's some other fragrance that can captivate you. For instance, Plah-Doh.

How the Florida Citrus Commission Destroyed Family Values

Plan59 has created a gallery of Demonic Tots and Deeply Disturbing Cuisine. Every picture is advertising evilness that is designed to tempt you towards either gorging yourself on piles of food or provoking you towards becoming a chainsaw murderer.

The reason why I chose to showcase the fellow above is because of the flirtatious nature of the picture. It's as though the boy is trying to say, "Drink some orange juice and you will magically join Satan's minions of Gene Simmons lookalikes".

Is this the Florida Citrus Commission's attempt to undermine Christianity? I think so.
