Gwar Puts Joan Rivers in Her Place

I can tell at the start of the segment that Joan Rivers wanted Gwar on her show to spew some moral outrage. And she totally failed. Part of her failure is that Gwar were so articulate and funny, she simply did not know how to respond.

She wanted to imply that, when people go to Gwar's show, they'd feel the sudden urge to commit acts of violence. Gwar's simple response was that such individuals should join the police force or army. Touche. If there are such pliable people, society certainly would have no problem with them entering occupations where violence is a requirement.

The brilliance of this interview is that Gwar shows clearly and succinctly the difference between fantasy and reality. Fantasy is where you dress up in outlandish Halloween costumes and have a good night out. Reality, on the other hand, is a moment you can't take back — a bludgeoned head, a tremourous hand, and blood that is shed. The differences between fantasy and reality are gaping.

I doubt Joan Rivers would be laughing if she believed Gwar fans were incapable of understanding the difference between fantasy and reality.

A Drunken David Hasselhoff Eats a Hamburger

I admit that I didn't expect this. Afterall, this is David Hasselhoff we're talking about. This is the Night Rider. This is Mr. Baywatch. The guy who did a cameo on Spongebob. And I feel bad for him.

Yet, I can't help but look. It's not so much that he's drunk. I've been drunk a few times myself. Last New Year's I was praying to the Porcelain Goddess and hoping to God I would spew out some of the alcohol from my mouth because I knew if I didn't, I was going to die. So I can relate to Mr. Hasselhoff, I really can.

It's the burger that gets me. It's a Wendy's burger, as he mentioned. He can barely eat it, but he gives it a valiant attempt. Frankly, I don't know how he gets the burger in his mouth. Each bit of beefy texture barely makes its way into his mouth as he vaguely aims it toward his face. It's unbelievable how he can barely talk yet he can still manage to chomp on that thing.

David Hasselhoff should secure promotional rights based on this performance. "Wendy's: So Good It Manages to Get Inside My Mouth". I'm sure, apart from the bad taste, the commercial would be a hit. We'd have Hasselhoff's smiling mug next to jug of Colt .45 and a Bacon Junior Cheeseburger.

In fact, based upon this wonderful snippet, I'm going to Wendy's right now.

More Awesome Songs Sung By Bill Cosby

As mentioned yesterday, Bill Cosby's second album Hooray for the Salvation Army Band! is an amusing collection of 60s pop music. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any MP3s. Today, I hope to rectify that situation. Here, for your listening pleasure, I have four songs from that particular album.

My honest opinion is that Cos definitely has an ear for funk. Also, one can detect a definite jazz influence in the horn sections. While Sgt. Pepper and Reach Out are tongue-in-cheek, Funk North Philadelphia and Ursalena are very earnest articles. Truthfully, I think this was more a labour of love than an attempt to make it big in the music industry. Bill Cosby must have known he would have never been taken seriously so he simply decided to do whatever he wanted.

It's stuff like this that makes one realize why one likes Cosby in the first place.

Disruptive Film Portraiture

Do you know who this guy is? Yeah, I didn't think so. He's got a waterfall for a face, so I don't think you're going to readily find out unless you do mountains of research. In any sense, whoever this person is — or was — was once a very famous Hollywood celebrity. Now he is rendered obscure by the beautiful scenery in front of his face.

This is part of a project John Stezaker does that deals with film actors and film scenes that are — for lack of a better term — disrupted by some generic scene of nature. It is hard for me to guess the artist's intentions without some statement from him, but I believe it is a commentary on our celebrity-obsessed culture that seems desperate to grant attention upon certain individuals for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Frankly, I don't give a damn whose faces these actors actually are.

I'm sick and tired of all the hype.
