I think it's a wonderful way to bond with your new baby as well as provide them with the best nutrients available. I think it may even be fine to nurse them until they are maybe 2 if they want. But, once they have all their teeth and can walk and you are trying to help them establish their independence, it's time to wean them. Most do it on their own long before they are 8. That is so weird. I am not sure why anyone would encourage their child to do that. And I do think it is encouraged. I have never heard of an 8 year old still nursing. Even the tribes in 3 world countries don't nurse that long.
