The Ventures Play "Wipeout" with Max Weinberg on the Drums!

It was 1989. Max Weinberg was yet to become band leader on Conan O'Brien's show. Back then, he was just a lowly member of the E Street band. Oh, had the chops, it just wasn't as publicized to the world as it is now.

In the comparatively humble circumstances, somehow he came in contact with the The Ventures. Here, immortalized through film, is a jam of the greatest instrumental rock song ever, "Wipeout!" In my opinion, there is no other fitting word to describe this other than "awesome".

On a sidenote, does anybody else wonder why they decided to ask Joey Ramone's opinion of The Ventures? It strikes me that he utterly fails to say anything profound whatsoever. They must have just been looking to fill space.

Wow, I agree with you 100% on everything until that last paragraph. I think its profoundness itself. Here's Joey Ramone, leader of THE most influential punk band ever, comparing the Ventures to the Beatles! That's about as good as it gets.

They asked him because Joey Ramone is a legend.
