Surreal Piece of Religious Propaganda Posits Jesus as Heroin Addict

I think the intent of this religious painting is that when you pump heroin in your veins, you are also harming Jesus. I can accept the fact people have good intentions. But there's so much that wrong about this picture.

First of all, it looks like Jesus is in the thrall of a heroin rush. Look at the expression on his face. It looks like he's more into it than the junkie is.

The other thing I notice is that the junkie seems to enjoy getting Jesus high. It almost seems to be a malicious action, like he's saying, "Yeah, Jesus, I'm going to take you to places you don't want to go! And if you try to stop me, I've got this gun in front of me that will make you do as I say!"

Finally, it seems like Jesus and the junkie are sharing the same left arm. It's as though they are very awkward Siamese twins. I am assuming of course, that Jesus only has control over one arm — which is a really bum deal for him.

But, as with most propaganda, the logistics of the situation isn't as important as the "message". Unfortunately, in this case, the message is getting obscured by the impossible logistics and the ambivalent nature of the situation.

I think some of you should provide captions for this.

Come on, George Michael, stop injecting heroin in jesus' arm!

it doesn't look like Jesus is really enjoying this, his expression looks painful.

i think the artists impression was to show the junkie shooting up, and killing whatever chance he had left of being saved through jesus, becuase hes killing the last ounce of religion that he has left in him.

just a thought.

Given how Jesus' clothes are transparent, I'd say it's likely that the author went for the supernatural ghostly look and intended the arm to belong to both.

Um, it's obviously not a literal thing, it's a metaphor. Probably just ment to sybolize an idea rather than having this guy actually be half junkie-half Jesus. Jesus looks more in emotional pain the strictly *high* as well.

Sometimes I wonder why people can't understand that it's more fun to interpret things literally. Seriously, why does this blog attract the "fact checkers" all the time?

You're all wrong, it's clearly Jesus's arm that's being spiked, the junkie's left arm is out of view. So this is really saying "If you love Jesus, help him take heroin".

I think the real question here is "whose skull is sitting on the table, and where did it come from?"

i think the real message of this picture, as some of you have somewhat hinted at, is that jesus is taking the heroin for the junkie. he is thrusting his arm in front of the junkie's to protect him. just as he died for the sins of everyone on the cross, he is sacrificing himself for the heroin junkie. his face is twisted in pain. the junkie looks to enjoy it because it is like he is shooting himself up, but jesus is there to take it away from him. the importance of this picture is to bring people to christ. instead of criticizing, you should be using your talents to go out and help further god's kingdom, bring people to christ.

This picture is perfect for the people that accepted Christ as their Savior but turned back to their old "self". And not only for them but for all of us that have been there -junkies.
For it is written "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Rom 5:8)

Amen.
That's exactly what it's for.
This picture is absolutely beautiful, and it's intended to show how God protects his children- even the sinners. And it also shows how it hurts God to see his children like this. It's a wonderful picture, and it is very powerful. It's not wrong on any level. It's Amazing. But I guess everyone's a critic. =/

"No my son, you're mixing your uppers and downers, let me take this hit for you so that you may go on a violent coke and alcohol fueled rampage. Oh and i've hung some sweet nun-chucks on the door in case you run out of ammo."

Why use a lighter for melting the junk when you've got a candle right there? seems like a waste to me.
as does the array of other vices spread out around them. i mean they're not going to be getting on the charlie after spiking some smack.

i like the gambling reference with the cards though. tres deep.

This painting is very nice it has so many means.

Heroin just hurt the man physically and spiritually but here in this picture shows that Jesus Christ always care about ourselves and it means that with our all fault except hurting ourselves we also hurt our Lord who come to earth just because of us.

One of my friends told me that if we think that with our entire fault we hit the hammer on the nails in Jesus hands and foots so we never like to made any mistake again in our life.

We believe and know that Jesus Christ is with us in all our ways and all our moments we share all of times happiness and sadness so if you think more about this painting, it shows exactly what we believe. So please come and decide to do not hurt more than this Jesus Christ with our faults.
